If you have been hanging out on the internet at all, you’ve probably been exposed to the whipped coffee craze! This amazing coffee drink is taking social media by storm. If you’ve seen it on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, you might be wondering what Dalgona Coffee is…
Basically, to make this coffee recipe, you blend together equal parts of instant coffee, sugar, and hot water until it forms a whipped topping. Then you pour milk over ice and place a few dollops of the whipped coffee on top. When you combine them together, you end up with a Dalgona.
How to Make Simple Whipped Coffee
This whipped coffee recipe has become so popular that it’s being labeled as TikTok coffee. It’s such a simple recipe, literally made with just three ingredients.
The toughest part about this coffee is hand mixing it for a few minutes until it forms peaks, much like making a meringue or whipped cream. But it’s ohhhh so worth it!
3 Ingredient Whipped Coffee
Once you whip up your creamy coffee topping, you can simply spoon it over a glass of icy milk. Swirl all the deliciousness together and you end up with something along the lines of a homemade coffee latte.
All you need to make whipped coffee fast is instant coffee (regular or decaf coffee works fine), milk (regular milk, cashew milk, oatmilk, or almond milk are our favorites), and sugar (make it sugar free with erythritol).
I recommend using a handheld mixer like this one to whip the three ingredients together. It should start to thicken within just 1 minute, but you can go a little longer to get a thicker topping. A handheld whisk does the trick too, but can take up to 20 minutes to get the peaks to form!
Tips for Making Whipped Coffee Dalgona Recipe Fast
- For the fastest way to make whipped coffee topping, use a hand mixer on high speed.
- Use equal parts instant coffee (we use Folgers Instant Coffee), hot water, and sugar. Two tablespoons of each makes enough topping for 2 servings. Simply double each ingredient to make more. We use an electric glass kettle like this one to make hot water FAST!
- Whip the three ingredients long enough so that the mixture becomes thick and creamy. It usually takes past a minute or two with a handheld mixer to achieve a whipped cream consistency. It could take 15 to 20 minutes if you use a whisk.
- Don’t use regular coffee grinds! We’ve experimented with coffee grinds and we haven’t been able to achieve a consistently fluffy topping.
- You can use sugar substitutes to make this coffee recipe.
- Experiment with different types of milk if you need to make this a dairy-free coffee recipe. We love using our homemade cashew milk, oatmilk, or almond milk. We’ve even used vanilla-flavored cashew milk, and the whipped coffee turns out amazing!

Is it possible to make Dalgona Coffee without Instant Coffee?
We tried a few times and didn’t have much success. We tried boiling coffee down and then adding sugar, but we couldn’t get the topping to whip. Many people claim that you can finely grind coffee beans and then put this fine powder through a mesh strainer. Apparently you can use this coffee powder as a replacement to instant coffee, but we have yet to try it out.

Can you make whipped coffee as a hot drink?
Why not!!! Heat up the milk and place it in a heat resistant cup and then add the whipped coffee topping. This would make a wonderful coffee drink on a cold winter day!
How do I make a Keto Whipped Coffee?
For a Keto version of Whipped Coffee, simply use a sugar substitute like granulated Erythritol, Swerve confectioners, or Monk Fruit sweetener.
Is there a Vegan Whipped Coffee Recipe?
Yup! To make the vegan whipped coffee, simply use non-dairy milk such as our favorite homemade cashew milk, coconut milk, almond milk, oatmilk, or soy milk. We love using the vanilla-flavored cashew milk to make our Dalgano Whipped Coffee because it makes it super creamy!

- 2 tbsp Folgers Instant Coffee Granules
- 2 tbsp Hot Water
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- 1-2 cups Milk We use Califia Farm Protein Oatmilk
- 1 cup Ice
Ingredients

- Heat a cup of water to boiling hot.
- In a mixing bowl, add 2 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp instant coffee, and 2 tbsp of the hot water.
- Beat the ingredients together using a hand mixer 1-5 minutes, waiting for the mixture to turn into a fluffy consistency. You can use a whisk, but it may take 15-20 minutes to get to the desired thickness.
- Pour one to two cups of milk over ice in a glass.
- Use a spoon or spatula to add the whipped coffee to the top of the iced milk! Snap a photo to share and then stir together and enjoy!!!
