Total Time 40 minutes
Servings: 8 Tortillas
Course: Dinner, Party Food
Cuisine: Mexican

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 cup Water
  • 3 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil You can use a vegetable oil, melted butter, or lard as well
  • 1/4 cup Grapeseed oil or Vegetable oil To cook the tortillas (not necessary if using a cast iron or heavy skillet)

Method

  1. In a bowl, combine flour and salt and lightly stir. Add water and olive oil. Use a wooden spoon to turn the ingredients. Scoop the dough and bring to center a few times until dough comes together. Then use your hand to knead the dough just 10-12 times until the dough forms a soft ball. Add a little water or flour as needed to make the dough form a smooth dough. Cover with a towel and allow the dough to rest for about 20 minutes.
  2. Divide dough into 8-10 equal portions. On a lightly floured work surface, roll each piece into a 7-8 inch circle.
  3. Heat a nonstick pan or skillet to low heat. Add 1 tsp of grapeseed oil to the hot skillet. Swirl the oil around. Place a tortilla onto the greased pan and allow to cook for 30 seconds to about one minute. Flip the tortilla with a spatula and lightly brown the other side for another 30 seconds to one minute,
