These cheesy scalloped potatoes are the perfect side dish addition to any dinner. They are easy to make, kid friendly and serve a family of four to six people. The end result is a bubbly dish of cheese heaven!

Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes Recipe

Scalloped Potatoes Recipe

Bubbly, cheesy, and easy to make, this scalloped potato recipe is made with sour cream to give it added flavor. You can even add a dash of cayenne pepper or Frank’s Hot Sauce to give these scalloped potatoes a little kick. Trust me, the whole family will be fighting over the leftovers.

This is a super simple recipe that bakes up in under an hour. Make sure to keep the potatoes in the oven until you get that beautiful brown color on top!

Tips for Making Scalloped Potatoes

  1. Scalloped potatoes are traditionally made with sliced potatoes and a creamy cheese sauce. This recipe calls for sour cream and you may omit the sour cream if you prefer, but it adds a whole new dimension to the flavor.
  2. Feel free to add ham, more onion, green onion or whatever strikes your fancy for this recipe.
  3. Spread out one layer of sliced potatoes, then add half of the sauce and half of the cheese. Then create another layer of potatoes, sauce and cheese. This way, the cheese and sauce reaches many layers of the potatoes! Yummm!
  4. Bake the potatoes at 400 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes (or until golden brown on top). You may also bake these at 375 for an hour plus. We prefer the higher temperature to get a more golden brown top.

This recipe pairs well with our Easy Crock Pot Baked Chicken Recipe. Bake the chicken in the Crock Pot and prep and cook the Scalloped Potatoes in your oven. Here’s the recipe for the Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes:
